Out of all 50 states, from Alabama to Wyoming, every letter of the alphabet makes an appearance at least once - except for the lonely letter "Q"!

If you enjoy word games or puzzles, here is a fun challenge: try to find a U.S. state with the letter "Q" in its name. You can look through all 50 states, but you'll soon realize it's an impossible task!
The names of the 50 American states are very diverse. They come from many different languages, including English, Spanish, French, and various Native American languages. Because of this variety, almost every letter of the English alphabet is used at least once.
For a long time, people also thought "J" and "Z" were missing, but they are tucked away in Jersey and Arizona. "Q" is truly the only one left out of the party. Even though there are many cities and streets in America that start with Q (like Queens in New York), no state founder chose a name that required this specific letter.
Interestingly, there were once proposals for new states that would have used the letter Q. For example, there was a suggestion to name a region "Quivira" (a legendary land of gold), but it never became an official state.
The English alphabet has 26 letters, and 25 of them are used to name the 50 states of America. The letter "Q" is the only one that was never invited to the list!
