This strange creature has no teeth. Instead, it uses a long, sticky tongue that can flick in and out up to 150 times per minute to "vacuum" thousands of ants from their nests in seconds!

In the animal kingdom, having no teeth sounds like a disadvantage, but for the Giant Anteater, it's a design for efficiency. Its tongue is its most powerful tool for survival.
The Giant Anteater's tongue can reach 60 cm (about 2 feet) long. Interestingly, it isn't attached to the back of the mouth like ours. Instead, it is attached to the sternum (breastbone), giving it incredible reach.
An anteater can consume up to 30,000 insects a day. Because they don't want to get bitten too much by angry ants, they only spend about a minute at each nest, using their rapid-fire tongue to grab as many as possible before moving on.
The Giant Anteater is a specialized biological machine. It proves that you don't need teeth to be a top predator in your niche - you just need the right "tool" for the job.
